Volunteer Profile: Claire Gudgin

“I have been volunteering at Sutton Life Centre for over three years and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Volunteering has been a great way for me to work flexibly whilst my children are still at school and has enabled me to try lots of different things. Both the Life Centre Manager and the Volunteer Manager have given me excellent support and have always encouraged me to pursue new endeavours.

One of the best things I’ve been a part of here is setting up a job club for the unemployed, which I run jointly with two other volunteers. I have found it really rewarding to help people gain the confidence and skills they need to help them find work, and I feel a real sense of achievement when we hear from a former job club member who has subsequently found a new job.

Other roles I have been involved in so far at Sutton Life Centre include running IT training classes for the over 50s, helping to raise funds for a media group who meet here, and producing the Sutton Life Centre newsletter. I hope in the future there will be many more volunteering opportunities like these!”
